Our new classes begin soon and I am excited for the possibilities to learn and grow. I wanted to highlight the changes that are taking place on Wednesday nights. We have been talking about

Why Not Wednesday

because we want to re-establish and build the habit of mid-week Bible study. We hope you will take advantage of the new class format for our kids. This will be a VBS style class for kids ages four to twelve. It will take place in room # 2 and it will begin on September 13th.

On that day, we will begin two classes for adults. These classes will help as a church in accomplishing two key tasks of Christians; evangelism and parenting. When we do these tasks well, the church of Christ is healthier, parents pass on their faith, and Christians are effective ambassadors for Christ.

Beginning Wednesday, September 13th

Room 4:

Passing on the Truth of Christ

– This will be a discussion about how to raise children who seek and hold on to Christ in their own faith. Ben Cook will be leading this discussion.

Auditorium:

The Disciples Path: The Journey

– The goal of this class will help us to become disciples that are mature and even be involved in making disciples that make more disciples. Christians were first called disciples, and it is important to reclaim that identity if we are going to be faithful followers of Jesus. Dennis Baker will lead this class.

Beginning Sunday, September 10th

Auditorium:

Real ID

– This class covers several important aspects of the identity of Christians as presented in scripture. Knowing our true identity helps us to live authentically. Len Otte will be teaching this class.

Room 4:

Wisdom and Character Development

– This study will explore the virtues for Christians (wisdom, justice, courage and temperance) and their impact upon character formation from select passages in the books of Ecclesiastes, Proverbs and Job. Craig Poole will be leading this class. (This is the first opportunity for Craig to teach a series of classes since he has been at Lakeview. Until recently, he has been a Chaplin on JBLM. Right now, while still assigned to JBML, he is working on some education goals and has time to share some of what he has been learning.)

Media Room:

Where Narratives Collide

– This is a discussion that will explore how God’s will intersects with our will. Being created in the image of God means we have our own sense of self-determination. That sense is then informed by something; either the Word of God, or the narrative of culture, or a little of both. Dennis Baker will facilitate this discussion.
