Genesis 18:17-19
Though few of us want to admit it, a lot of who we are is wrapped up into who our fathers are. Who was your father? Was he a man of character? Was he gentle or angry or distant? Impossible to please? Yes. He’s affected a significant part of who you are today. In ancient times, the Jews understood their confession “Abraham is our father” was central to their identity as people of the promise. The same is true of all of us. Dads play a huge role in our self identity, self confidence, and self loathing. Dads always make an impression on their kids. So let’s do it on purpose.
