The Birth of Samson
Judges 13
The more I study about the life of Samson, the more I'm convinced that Samson gets thrown under the bus in our Bible classes. His calling as a Nazarite - for life - was important in how God was able to use him to liberate Israel. Come back tonight, and we will geek out on the nuances of the Nazarite vow together.

    It is Time to Remember
    Psalms 78:1-8
It seems like our calendars are filled with dates to remember: birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays. Yet, there are some days we do not seem to remember or celebrate. Yesterday was Armed Forces Day, May 29th will be Memorial Day, and July 4th is Independence Day. To most of us, celebrating those days means having a family picnic or a camping trip. Why should I remember the meaning behind days like that? God has given us days and instruction that He wants us to remember. Today, we will look at why remembering is important to the Christian walk.

Great Assets of our Faith – A Great Commitment
    Matthew 11:25-30
Oh, what peace we often forfeit, what needless pain we bear.” These words by Joseph Scriven are in a familiar song, “What A Friend We have In Jesus.” This song may have been inspired by Matthew 11. Jesus observes the struggles that people have. Some of these are self-inflicted because the people have rejected God. Even when He has given great evidence of His activity, people still ignore and live according to their own desires. Jesus has made a great commitment to you. Can you commit to Him?

Great Assets of Our Faith – The Great Confusion
    Matthew 9:35-38
Weary and worn out is an appropriate way to express how we feel at times. When you are overwhelmed, to what do you turn? Jesus refers to a great asset of faith in this passage that not only encourages me when I feel overwhelmed, but plants within me a seed of possibility that I can make a difference.

    The Kingdom of Grace
    Romans 5:1-11
When two parties are at odds, and there is a desire for reconciliation, someone needs to initiate and someone needs to respond. The result is going to be a new relationship, with new connections and guidelines. The reconciliatory experience becomes the controlling narrative. We are part of a kingdom that is the defined by the narrative of the cross. It is a kingdom of life. It is a kingdom of grace.

    Bargaining with God
    Judges 11:29-40
Jephthah is, in every way, a self-made man. Rough around the edges. Perhaps gruff and short tempered, but everything he has, he has accomplished. As a self made man he bargains with God to ensure victory in battle, but the consequences of that deal are unspeakably difficult.

A Christmas You’ve Probably Never Heard of
    Revelation 12:13-17
Keep your nativity scene boxed up this year. Instead of a manger, camel, and three wise men; replace them with a dragon, a river, the earth and a woman refugee. The birth of Christ is a maneuver in the middle of an immortal epoch between God and Satan. Gird your loins. Prepare for battle. Go watch The Hobbit to get in the right frame of mind as we explore Revelation 12 and the birth of Christ.

    From Zero to Hero
    Judges 11:1-28
Have you ever wondered how God chooses whom He uses? Jephthah will make you ask. Without a doubt, he had a troubled upbringing. A victim of the choices of his father and his brothers, Jephthah had no advantages in life, and made troubling choices as a result, but God chose him.

But Because I, Adonai, Do Not Change
    Romans 4:1-8
What a person needs to live a life of peace and contentment is stability and dependability with the people they are connected with. It is obvious there is a great need for that in our world. That need has been filled. Is your life built on a Rock or on sand?

    Father to Son: Abimelech
    Judges 9:1-57
Israel clamored for a king. They begged for Gideon or any of his children, and Abimelech rose to the occasion. But no leader is better than an unqualified leader, as Abimelech's murderous legacy reveals. We will discuss this, and more tonight.

    The Great Exchange
    Romans 3:19-26
At times, I am keenly aware of my inability to follow through with my commitments to God. At other times, I think that God is pretty lucky to have me on His side. Neither of these mindsets lead us to faithfulness; they lead us to carelessness.

    One Generation to Another
    Psalm 145:1-7
Sociologists call it Generational Fragmentation. Basically, it means people in modern society spend less time with people outside their generation. Even in church we can gather together like oil and water in the same bottle. This morning we will discuss the blessings of having all our generations under one roof.

It’s Not The End of the World
    Joel 2:28 – 3:21
Some may wonder what God is up to, as it relates to things going on in the world. This one verse sums it up, “The Lord does not delay His promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance.”

Let the Children Come to Me
    By: (All)
    Matthew 19:13-15
It always surprises me that some of the most evangelically-minded people show little interested in children. Historically the vast majority of baptisms in the church come from our kids. It's the culmination of faithful parents, strong Sunday school, youth, and children's ministries working together to build a foundation for our kids. These programs are important to us because our children are important to Jesus.

Watching The Day of the Lord
    Joel 1 & 2
Philosophers have gotten to us. Especially the ones who told us that God has wound up the clock of time for human history, left and is off waiting and watching. When the allotted time runs out, then He will return and take appropriate action. Because of that false idea, we think there will always be enough time to make needed changes. Joel’s message is that people of faith see that God is always at work in this world, acting in a way that leads us penitently to Him.
